  • Only four years into her six-year Law and Business degree at Edith Cowan University, university student Larissa Schreiber has landed a part-time position as a Project Controller with Sodexo Australia.

Larissa never believed she would use her degree prior to graduation, but after interning with Sodexo in 2020, she quickly realised the real-world opportunities available to young practitioners.

“I knew surprisingly little about the work involved in project management, and how this is applied in the mining sector, but I’ve learnt so much through my internship with Sodexo,” Larissa said.

Larissa worked diligently throughout her internship, supporting the Project Controls Team with purchase orders, billing, administration and new jobs. It was this hard work and dedication which saw her offered a part-time position

Becoming an instant asset to the teams she supported, Larissa cultivated a range of technical skills and soft industry management skills, such as communication, networking and understanding different personalities in the workplace.

“Initially I was intimidated by the idea of a corporate job, but after my internship I knew what was expected,” Larissa said.

“I never doubted there was support at Sodexo. They’ve been incredibly supportive of my transition from university to corporate life.”

Larissa has happily embraced the challenges of part-time work and study, and credits her positive learning experience to the company’s inclusive culture.
