World leader in quality of life services, Sodexo, has joined in congratulating Karratha business, Naanda Australia in its appointment as Makita’s first and only Authorised Repair Service Centre for the Pilbara region.

The partnership marks global power tool company, Makita’s first collaboration in Australia with an Indigenous-owned business allowing Naanda, which offers facility management, pest and weed control and labour hire, to expand its capabilities to further engage the community.

The Naanda and Makita journey began around 18 months ago when Makita entered into a preferred supplier arrangement with global leader in quality of life services, Sodexo.

Aboriginal woman Jane Tittums who founded Naanda in 2010, said the partnership would enable the business to provide technical-based career pathways to upskill long-term unemployed Aboriginal people who may not be able to perform physically demanding occupations.

“Our centre will also provide year 11 and 12 students school-based training one day a week as part of an accredited electronic course, Certificate 2 Electronic Assembly,” Ms Tittums said.

Makita Business Development Manager (Western Region) Andrew Shaw said appointing Naanda would provide an elevated level of service to Makita customers in the region, while creating career pathways for locals.
“Our goal is to help Naanda build this new enterprise within their business and we have provided the infrastructure and technical training for Naanda to undertake tool servicing,” Mr Shaw said.
“This complements the business’ existing list of professional services, expanding Naanda’s capabilities.”

Sodexo worked with Naanda during its incubation phase, as part of Sodexo’s ongoing commitment to supporting local communities through its Better Tomorrow 2025 corporate responsibility roadmap and Elevate Reconciliation Action Plan.

“Our business in Australia is widespread across many service lines and segments and it is rewarding to find connections within our supplier and stakeholder networks that nurture the communities in which we operate,” Sodexo CFO and Country President, Mark Chalmers said.

“We are passionate about creating new employment and enterprise opportunities and the Naanda and Makita partnership is testament to this. We look forward to seeing this business venture prosper and continue supporting the local communities in the Pilbara region and further afield.”
