Food security initiative Foundation Food has officially launched in an Australian first to establish a low-cost, high-quality supermarket option for locals in Roebourne (Ieramugadu) in the Western Pilbara.

The pilot store in Roeburne is the first grocery service the remote town has had access to in more than two years.

Foundation Food was established as a not-for-profit in response to almost a third of Australians (28%) who are deemed food insecure, meaning they lack physical or economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food, according to the 2021 Foodbank Hunger Report.
