Sodexo is proud to announce its Reconciliation Australia Action Plan (RAP) will now enter the Elevate status, the highest possible phase for organisations committed to closing the gap on Indigenous disadvantage in Australia.

Reconciliation Australia encourages corporate Australia to commit to one of four action plans. Each aims to promote more inclusive policies and build a culture of respect and trust around Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures.

RAP continues to be the central component of Sodexo’s ten year plan of bringing sustainable and meaningful change to Australia’s First Nations peoples.

The move is part of a broader Sodexo strategy to improve quality of life for its employees, clients and the local communities it operates within.

Johnpaul Dimech, CEO Sodexo, Australia comments: “As Sodexo reaches the half-way point of our ten year reconciliation pledge it is important to reflect on what we have achieved so far. To date, Sodexo maintains a healthy partnership with the Yothu Yindi Foundation through its Garma event. Additionally, we have hosted 12 National Reconciliation Week events in 2014, achieved 10% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment in the resources services business and provided sponsorship and support of multiple community based activities.”

Justin Mohamed, CEO Reconciliation Australia, says: “Leadership demonstrated by corporate companies such as Sodexo and other RAP Elevate organisations are fostering an environment attune to the needs and cultural sensitivities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. Such a shift will inevitably lead to an improvement in the quality of life for Australia’s First Peoples.”

Sodexo’s RAP priorities for the next three years include:

  • Becoming an employer of choice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

  • Strengthening relationships and supporting cultures

  • Increasing supplier diversity and new ways to work together with Indigenous Australians

  • Strong governance, measurement and reporting to ensure Sodexo is achieves these goals

Sodexo is also a member of the Recognise Network of Organisations, which aims to work together and support the push for Indigenous recognition in Australia’s Constitution.

Sodexo is committed to facilitating national reconciliation through social change and setting the benchmark for other organisations wishing to create opportunities for Australia’s Indigenous population.
