Sodexo, global leader in quality of life services, has been named Australia’s Indigenous Employer of the Year, for the third time, at this year’s atWork Australia Employer Awards.

The award category recognises an employer that is committed to providing employment opportunities for Indigenous Australians.

Sodexo’s Vocational Training and Employment Centre (VTEC), employment programs and direct employee referrals have helped 80 Indigenous jobseekers achieve successful placement within the facilities management company over the last year.

The Executive Manager Employment Services for atWork Australia, Michael Kolomyjec, said Sodexo is well-deserving of the award.

“Sodexo demonstrates tremendous commitment to Closing the Gap for Indigenous job seekers and we are proud to partner with them as we work towards our shared goal,” Mr Kolomyjec said.

“This award win acknowledges Sodexo’s continued dedication to excellence in providing employment opportunities for many Indigenous Australians who may otherwise not have the chance to transform their lives through work.”

Sodexo has employed more than 1,100 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples since the company launched its first Elevate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in 2009 to support the national reconciliation movement.

During Sodexo’s most recent Elevate RAP, released in March this year, it noted $33.5 million had been earned at Sodexo by Indigenous employees through salaries, providing a direct positive impact to many communities.

Sodexo Chief Financial Officer and Country President Mark Chalmers said the award further encouraged Sodexo’s work with Indigenous peoples and communities.

“We’re humbled to have been recognised with this award again this year and it only drives our commitment to help Indigenous Australians find employment and a career with Sodexo,” Mr Chalmers said.

The 2019 atAwork Australia 2019 Employer Awards were held at the Boatshed Restaurant on the Swan River.
