Sodexo demonstrates commitment to the local Karratha community, as part of the One Education program, through the provision of new XO computer technology at Roebourne Primary School.

In collaboration with One Education, Sodexo’s remote sites operations in Perth recently contributed a donation of 89 brand-new XO laptop computers to Roebourne Primary School in the Karratha region of Western Australia. Students from Kindergarten through to Year 2 will utilise the innovative XO devices while in school to support both their educational and personal development. To ensure successful deployment of the new hardware, Sodexo has also committed to sponsor teacher training, networking to the school’s IT system, spare parts, device maintenance and repairs.

The XO laptop technology donated by Sodexo is a modern child-friendly device. The device functions as both a laptop and touchscreen tablet, designed to accommodate multiple educational activities. As part of the donation, classrooms will be equipped with shared docking stations and laptops programmed to operate securely within the school’s network.

Sodexo has been operational in Karratha for over six years and has always played a role of support to local community groups and businesses. This donation continues Sodexo’s commitment to supporting sustainable programs that enhance quality of life and provide tangible benefits to the community. Sodexo has also supported the Pilbara Girl Program, Roebourne Men and Women gala dinner events, the Mayuga Magic basketball team and the Roebourne Art Group.

One Education is both the name and the aim of the not-for-profit organisation headed up in Australia by CEO, Rangan Srikhanta. The organisation is aimed at creating equal learning opportunities for children in Australia through the provision of new technology. It provides children with grounding in computer skills, a positive learning experience and access to a quality modern education.

Wendy Dawson, Sodexo General Manager of Indigenous and Community Engagement, says: “Sodexo is proud to play an integral part in implementing the One Education program at the Roebourne School. We believe it is important to empower the next generation of leaders and one of the best investments we are able to make is in early childhood education.”

Clinton Wearing, Roebourne School Principal, comments: “Through the generous donation made by Sodexo we will provide the XO laptops to our early childhood students in 2015, thereby laying a strong foundation for positive and quality learning.”
