Sodexo acknowledges the importance of working with Traditional Owners and communities as an opportunity to not only fulfil its corporate social responsibility, but to gain the right to operate on Aboriginal land.

Sodexo has in place a Covenant Agreement with the Australia Employment Covenant (AEC) which is a commitment to provide 80 new jobs to Indigenous jobseekers each year for the next 10 years.


“Sodexo’s approach to Indigenous employment is to build individual capacity, provide training and career pathways and offer a strong retention strategy” said Sodexo’s CEO, Johnpaul Dimech.


At Sodexo, new Indigenous employees receive entry level training, are assigned workplace mentors, and work in a culturally sensitive and non-discriminatory workplace.


On 7th May 2012 Sodexo was presented with an Indigenous Employment Award from AEC, for fulfilling and exceeding its Indigenous employment commitment. This award is recognition of the solid work that has been undertaken by Sodexo’s Indigenous team over the past four years.


Sodexo continues to strive to be an AEC employer of choice for Indigenous Australians and is continuously working to close the gap on Indigenous disadvantage through meaningful employment. Also a key business stream of Sodexo’s Reconciliation Action Plan is direct employment.
