Context

Yandicoogina (Yandi) Village is located in West Australia’s Pilbara region, 95km northwest of Newman. It is a Fly-In, Fly-Out (FIFO) village with 1,700 rooms and is home to around 600 residents working at the nearby Yandi iron ore mine.

Yandi’s central facilities building, comprising a kitchen, dining room, reception, and retail shop, is vital to the village’s amenities and resident experience.

Challenge

The central facilities building required a complete refurbishment to address a number of significant operational and compliance issues.

The roof, flooring, and electrical system had reached the end of life and required replacement. The dining room and village retail store also required upgrading.

Sodexo Solution

Sodexo delivered a solution that transformed the central facilities building, including a full architectural redesign and internal rebuild.

Other works included mould remediations and full electrical and plumbing upgrades.

Sodexo also redesigned the kitchen, installed new front and back of house kitchen equipment, including remote connectivity and monitoring capability, and replaced furniture throughout the building.

On completion, the client received an asset designed to modern architectural standards, with safe and compliant electrical and mechanical systems.

Impact: Achieved Together

Yandi residents have enjoyed a fully refurbished Central Facilities building since the official opening of the facility in 2022.
