Shell Australia has awarded Sodexo the provision of off-shore facilities management services for Prelude Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) facility, with services to be delivered seamlessly from South Korea to the Browse Basin.

Prelude FLNG, the largest floating facility ever constructed, allows for the production, liquefaction, storage and transfer of LNG, LPG and condensate at sea, the first deployment of this technology by Shell Australia. Upon arrival in Australian waters, Prelude will moor 475 kilometres north-northeast of Broome.

Backed by in-depth experience operating offshore in isolated environments and a long standing partnership with Shell Group, Sodexo will implement its innovative service offer – Offshore Life - to meet Shell’s objectives to create a ‘Great Place to Work’ and live offshore. This includes:

  • Creating a comfortable and safe physical environment that enhances safety and on-board comfort for the all personnel. Sodexo will oversee the accommodation management, waste management, house-keeping and laundry services for the 600,000 tonne facility. Sodexo will also provide commissioning support in Geoje, South Korea, ensuring the living quarters are comfortable and to Australian safety standards.

  • Providing technical services and administration support ensuring ease and efficiency on-board. Sodexo’s multi-skilled resources will take care of Helideck administration and corrective and preventative maintenance in the galley, dining, accommodation and recreation areas in a timely manner, allowing Prelude Technicians to focus on their core activity.

  • Ensuring the health and wellbeing and ongoing social interaction of personnel. Offshore conditions mean we need to pay particular attention to providing a balanced and supportive environment. Sodexo will encourage an atmosphere of community on-board and provide a wellness program to support and encourage workers to make changes to their life habits. Guidance from nutritionists and wellness experts, the provision of dietician-approved meal options and relevant nutritional advice, enables workers to make educated choices.

Sodexo’s commitment, in partnership with Shell Australia, is to shape the contract service delivery in a way that adds significant long term value, sustainability and vitality to the local communities through local employment and procurement of local products and services, whilst supporting cultural empowerment.

The potential for Sodexo to deliver improved outcomes is underpinned by long-term relationships with Indigenous communities and local business entities across Broome and Darwin. Sodexo and Shell share a common commitment to positively contribute to Australia’s reconciliation journey and improve the Quality of Life of the communities in which the organisations operate. The contract also marks Shell Australia’s first outsourced solution to feature positive gender diversity targets, recognising the value each organisation places on workplace diversity.

Sodexo’s Oil & Gas Segment Director for Australia, Laurent Lavalaye says: “This new contract signifies Shell and Sodexo’s shared focus on safety, operational excellence and commitment to creating sustainable foundations for economic growth in local communities. We are very proud to help improve the quality of the life of local communities and Shell’s Prelude team on this world class facility.”
