Published on : 5/20/24
  • Driven by her adventurous spirit, Lee-Anne has fearlessly transitioned from one role to the next with a sense of curiosity that has seen her take the most daunting leap yet to a Fly-In, Fly-Out (FIFO) role with Sodexo.

Embracing a role as a bus driver, she contributes to the business’ annual 5.8 million kilometres travelled in the Pilbara to safely deliver more than 3 million residents to site and back home to their loved ones.

Reflecting on her leap, she acknowledged, "I have never done anything like this before, but I know that pushing myself outside of my comfort zone is always an exciting adventure that I know I will enjoy.”

    No time like the present

Lee-Anne had been intrigued by FIFO roles since immigrating to Australia in 2012, and finally as an empty-nester entering her third decade of office work, she was eager to try something completely different.

“So, when Sodexo was advertising for Bus Drivers, I knew that there was no time like the present, and decided to take the leap,” she said.

“I wasn’t getting any younger and with my children grown up and living their own lives, I wanted to jump into FIFO before it was too late. I wanted to do something different, something that would challenge me on a whole new level.”

    Only way is up

Despite her lack of prior experience in the field, Lee-Anne embraced the opportunity wholeheartedly, eager to explore new horizons.

Her passion for driving, cultivated since childhood, fuelled her determination and she obtained her Heavy Rigid (HR class) license, and then applied for the bus driver role with Sodexo, hoping that her attitude and commitment to learning a new industry would help her secure the role.

Lee-Anne's commitment to personal growth has been a driving force in her professional journey. She views each role as an opportunity to enhance her skills and contribute to her team's success.
"I am a very challenge-driven person. I want to continually improve and overcome obstacles to come out the other side a more rounded person,” she said.

    A duck to water

Emigrating countries, often makes you a resilient and adaptable person—and Lee-Anne is no exception.

Changing not only employment roles but entire industries, she has continually made peace with the discomfort of change.

“Sodexo truly took a chance on me. Although I have years of experience in other roles, transport was something I didn’t know anything about,” Lee-Anne said.

“The business’ investment in me, my career, and the broader transport team makes it possible to deliver our exceptional and safe service.”

Despite the initial uncertainties surrounding her transition, Lee-Anne acknowledges Sodexo’s unwavering support as well as investment in her development, enabled her seamless integration into the FIFO lifestyle.

With aspirations to advance within the transport team, she sees a bright future with Sodexo.

Her story serves as an inspiring testament to the transformative power of embracing change and seizing opportunities when they present themselves. With the support of a nurturing workplace environment, she continues to thrive and encourage others to embark on their own journeys of self-discovery and growth.
