Hayley B.pngMeet Hayley Borissow, Sodexo Australia’s Sustainability and Decarbonisation Manager.

This new chapter for Hayley is not just a recognition of her proven ability but an opportunity to bring about positive change for the team, clients and, most importantly, the planet.

After spending the last two-and-a-half years in the Business Development team as the Head of Client Retention, Hayley’s transition to this new position is a major milestone for the sustainability advocate.

It’s Hayley’s overwhelming passion for the natural world that makes her the perfect candidate to take over this new role, driving the achievement of Sodexo’s ambitious targets in sustainability and decarbonisation while helping clients realise their environmental targets as well

    Pursuing her greatest passion

Growing up in East Africa and Seychelles meant Hayley was always immersed in nature. From watching beautifully coloured fish dance among the reefs to sitting with one of the last families

of Mountain Gorillas in the heart of a dense rainforest–she really, truly has experienced all the rich bounties the natural world has to offer.

What drove Hayley to pursue her passion for sustainability, though, was seeing this all disappear.

To say I’m blessed is an understatement, but for all the beauty I have seen, I have witnessed far more destruction in my short time on earth,” she said.

“In the face of all this destruction, I absolutely had to change my career plans, return to university and do what I can to change mindsets and business practices for the sake of our planet.”

Hayley now boasts a double Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science and Environmental Management, as well as post-graduate studies in the Economics of Clean Energy Transition and ongoing studies in climate change and emissions abatement. It’s safe to say she is well-

positioned to transition from her Business Development team, in which she has played a vital role for the last two and a half years, into this new position.

    Acting with purpose

For Hayley, it’s all about action. That’s why she is tenaciously chasing Sodexo’s NetZero targets. But it’s no small feat. Luckily, Hayley said she has an unbelievably strong and supportive team by her side.

"Sodexo has set comparatively ambitious NetZero targets, and these goals will push the agenda across our supply chain and promote change with our clients,” she said.

The teamwork we need in cutting our emissions is incredibly far reaching, we are all in this together; every employee, supplier, subcontractor and client has a part they can play.”

As well as a collaborative team, Hayley said the tools available to her provide an excellent baseline assessment of emissions across operations, making it more efficient to map out and adjust the decarbonisation plan over the next decade.

When undertaking this role, Hayley refers to a well-known quote:

There are risks and costs to action. But they are far less than the long-range risks of comfortable inaction.”

This reminds her to act with purpose, instil sustainable practices and endorse Sodexo’s commitment to the planet. Are you a client who wants to know more? Connect with Hayley on Linkedin.
