Making Space for Everyone: Kim Scott’s Story

This March, we’re celebrating GURL PWR – Grow. Unite. Rise. Lead. across Sodexo Australia. Throughout the month, we’re spotlighting the women who embody this spirit — those who follow non-linear paths, act with courage, break barriers, and inspire those around them.
We call them our Trailblazers.

One of these Trailblazers is Kim Scott, Assistant Village Manager and a proud advocate within our Pride Network. For Kim, leadership begins with one simple principle: people come first.

Not Linear: A Leader Rooted in Care

Kim came to the energy and resources sector with a strong background in hospitality management. She saw an opportunity to bring her love for people into a new environment.

"I could see that my love of hospitality and people would be valuable here," Kim explains. "I hoped to enhance the level of service and care provided."

Now, as an Assistant Village Manager, that care is at the centre of her work. Working away from home can be tough, and Kim understands the importance of looking after the wellbeing of residents.

"Being able to care for our staff members' welfare, mentally and physically, when they are away from home and in a challenging environment is very important to me," she says.

Not Limited: Finding a Home for Authenticity

Choosing where to work is a big decision. For Kim, the choice to join Sodexo was influenced by recommendations from other women in the industry and a clear alignment of values.

"I could see via the Sodexo website that it was a company championing inclusivity, which is important to me," Kim recalls. "The Pride Network stood out straight away as a movement I wanted to be a part of and support."

Since joining, Kim has become a visible advocate for inclusivity. She is a proud gay woman who demonstrates what it looks like to be authentic in the workplace. By being visible, she hopes to encourage others, especially younger women, to be proud of who they are and to see a bright future for themselves in the mining industry.

Not Done: Overcoming Challenges and Inspiring Growth

Entering the mining industry wasn't without its hurdles. Kim notes that fitting into a "much younger environment" and keeping up with rapidly changing technology were initial challenges.

She also acknowledges the broader challenges women still face in the sector. "It can still be a little harder to be 'heard' as a woman in a male-dominated workplace," she observes. However, she sees positive change happening every day at Sodexo. "Those aspects are constantly improving and being highlighted for change within the Sodexo workplace, which is a positive thing."

Words of Wisdom

Kim’s approach to her career is about confidence and continuous learning. She runs marathons, promotes fitness, and encourages her team to take care of themselves.
For other women considering a career in this industry, Kim offers simple but powerful advice:

"Be confident in your worth and always ask questions, even if they make you feel vulnerable."
Kim Scott proves that leadership is more about people than operations. By bringing her whole self to work, she ensures that everyone around her feels seen, heard, and valued.
