Farhan Mehmood – Health Safety & Environment Advisor at Upper East Pilbara
Farhan Mehmood is a remarkable individual whose journey from the northern regions of Pakistan to becoming a key player in employee health and safety in Australia exemplifies dedication, resilience, and a commitment to making a meaningful impact. As a Health Safety & Environment (HSE) Advisor with Sodexo, Farhan leverages his extensive background in health management and project implementation to foster a safer and more inclusive workplace culture. His story is one of overcoming challenges, pursuing knowledge, and passionately advocating for the wellbeing of employees.
A New Beginning in Australia
As he reflected on his journey, Farhan shared, “Coming from an area that faced numerous challenges, I wanted to leverage my education and experience to bring about positive change. When I arrived in Australia, I was particularly intrigued by how organisations approached employee wellbeing, especially in high-pressure industries like mining and FIFO (Fly-In, Fly-Out) sectors.
“During my research, I discovered that workplaces significantly affect employee mental health. Understanding this was key to my approach to health and safety. I found that my passion for health and wellbeing aligned perfectly with the values that many Australian companies, including Sodexo, uphold,” he explained.
Finding His Place at Sodexo
Farhan’s transition to Sodexo was not only exciting but also deeply meaningful to him on multiple levels. With a robust background in health management information systems and extensive experience in project management, he was actively seeking an organisation that would allow him to leverage his expertise and make tangible, real-world contributions. Reflecting on his decision, he noted, “What truly set Sodexo apart for me was the fact that it was an organisation that genuinely encouraged engagement at all levels. I specifically sought a work environment that not only acknowledged my skills and knowledge but also inspired me to initiate change and drive improvement. From the very first moment I stepped into the office as a new employee, I felt an overwhelming sense of empowerment and belonging that I hadn't experienced before.”
He elaborated further, “I struggled to find avenues where I could confidently voice my ideas and suggestions. But joining Sodexo changed that dynamic entirely. I quickly realised that this organisation actively promotes a culture where every individual’s voice holds value, irrespective of their professional background or job title. This commitment to inclusivity is not only incredibly motivating but has also opened my eyes to the significant potential we all have to positively influence employee health and wellbeing across the board.”
When I saw Sodexo’s commitment to health and safety, I knew this was the place where I could truly make a difference.”

Inclusivity isn’t just about policies or training; it’s about building relationships based on trust and understanding. I look forward to continuing this journey and advocating for employee health and wellbeing.
