Tyeisha Beni Hobbs - Cleaning Attendant
Rooted in Culture and Family
Tyeisha’s story is deeply rooted in her heritage and family. Her great-grandmother, originally from Borroloola near the MacArthur River, later moved to Groote Eylandt before settling in Darwin, where her family flourished. Tyeisha was born in Darwin, spent her childhood in Katherine, her teenage years in Townsville, and recently made her way back to Darwin earlier this year.
Her bond with her family is evident in every aspect of her life. Camping trips and time spent in nature with her large family of 12 siblings are Tyeisha’s favourite pastimes. Being the third eldest, she feels a deep responsibility to inspire and uplift her younger siblings, showing them the power of pursuing dreams and trying new paths.
When asked about her motivation to enter the FIFO (fly-in-fly-out) lifestyle, Tyeisha said, “I wanted to try something new and different, but I also wanted to show my siblings what’s possible. If I can do this, then they can too.” Tyeisha’s example has already inspired her younger brother and sister to explore similar career paths.
A Smooth Transition with Sodexo’s Support
Starting a new chapter in a demanding FIFO career takes both resilience and determination, and Tyeisha brought both to the table. From her very first application to lacing up her steel-cap boots for the first time, her unwavering drive shone through. At the same time, Sodexo’s inclusive and supportive recruitment and onboarding process provided her with the structure and encouragement she needed to thrive.
“The entire process was so easy,” Tyeisha said. “I got a call, completed my white card, attended an online induction where I got to meet people, and everything was clearly communicated. By the time I arrived on-site, I felt prepared.”
Tyeisha admits her first shift was challenging but exciting. “The first shift is always the hardest because you're adjusting, but everyone was so helpful. I quickly made friends, and by the end of the first swing, I was already looking forward to the next.”
Tyeisha is an active participant in Sodexo’s Indigenous Mentoring and Career Development Program. The program has been instrumental in helping her stay grounded in her identity while working in remote locations, offering her a safe space to share experiences and draw strength from her roots. Through this support, Tyeisha has developed deeper confidence in her abilities and a clearer vision for her future.
Tyeisha is energised to jump in during daily pre-starts, sharing ideas and showing a solid grasp of workplace safety. Whether it’s the strong camaraderie with her team, the perfect blend of hard work and personal downtime, or the chance to recharge during her off weeks at home, she’s truly found her stride in the FIFO lifestyle.

Celebrating NAIDOC Week and Indigenous Legacy
The 2025 NAIDOC Week theme, "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision, & Legacy," resonates deeply with Tyeisha. Strength means bravely stepping forward and trying new things, even when they seem challenging. Vision is about setting clear goals and pursuing them with determination. Legacy is the most personal of all, as Tyeisha strives to create a path of inspiration for her younger siblings and Indigenous women.
Tyeisha values the conversations about her culture with her diverse team and appreciates Sodexo’s efforts to create a work environment that welcomes and supports people from all backgrounds.
