Kate Hill - Wellness Advisor
Meet Kate Hill, a dedicated wellness advocate and community leader. Her journey, which began with the successful ownership of a gym in far North Queensland, has been nothing short of inspiring. Her passion for wellness and adventure, coupled with her remarkable adaptability in challenging environments, has led her to diverse experiences, shaping her into the professional she is today.
Following her successful ownership of a gym, Kate's journey took a transformative turn. She spent two years at the iconic Elquestro homestead in the East Kimberleys, a period that truly tested her adaptability and daring spirit. Her love for adventure was further showcased during a three-month trip to Europe, where she thrived in diverse and challenging environments, highlighting her passion for exploration and discovery. Kate's ability to adapt and thrive in such diverse environments is a testament to her resilience and passion for her work.
Upon settling in Perth, Kate's journey took an exciting turn. Eager to find a new opportunity after her husband found employment with a drilling company, she joined Sodexo.
This move reignited her passion for the wellness industry, demonstrating her dedication and resilience to her field. She once again began positively impacting people's lives, making significant contributions to the team as a Wellness Advisor at Brockman 4 Village.
Commitment to Mental Health
Kate's commitment to holistic wellness is truly inspiring. Her years of experience in the fitness industry have given her a deep understanding of the powerful impact of physical activity on mental health. Her commitment to holistic wellness is further demonstrated through her successful coordination of fundraisers and challenges for these initiatives.
"After years of experience in the fitness industry, I have witnessed the profound impact of physical activity on mental health. My commitment to holistic wellness is demonstrated through my successful coordination of fundraisers and challenges for Movember, Beyond Blue, and the Black Dog Institute in Port Douglas. Furthermore, my possession of certificates 3 & 4 in fitness certifications and first aid certificates highlights my strong professional qualifications," she shared.
In her role at Sodexo, Kate not only brings a different energy into the workplace but also spreads positivity and puts smiles on people's faces. Her ability to create an inclusive and supportive environment is reflected in the close-knit community she has cultivated through her work, which has expanded from the gym to the entire neighbourhood.
"I genuinely believe in the power of starting conversations. I can help people open up and engage in meaningful chats, even when they don't realise I'm checking in on them.”
"Mental health is essential to me, and I'm pleased to see a growing focus on men's mental health. I advocate for a healthy mind and body, proper hydration, and regular physical activity. I also emphasise the importance of recovery, including stretching and getting enough sleep, especially for those who work shifts,” she shared.
“Men's mental health is a cause close to my heart. I believe in the importance of opening up about mental health challenges and offering support to create a safe space for all to seek help and guidance,” she added.
“Through my fitness programs and community initiatives, I strive to encourage men to prioritise their mental well-being and seek assistance when needed. I am committed to breaking the stigma surrounding men's mental health and promoting open conversations about emotions and mental wellness."
Community Within
"Besides excelling at my job, which I love, I have had the opportunity to meet some amazing people at Sodexo and Rio Tinto. Working full-time at Brockman 4 has allowed me to establish strong connections with the residents.”
“It truly feels like a lifelong family. When you think about it, you spend more time with the people you work with than with your loved ones at home," she said confidently.
"I quickly embraced the FIFO (Fly-In, Fly-Out) lifestyle after residing at Elquestro station, which had a similar setup. My training is an indispensable part of my daily routine. I also prioritise relaxation activities like swimming and stretching. I am privileged to have an exceptional management team at Brockman 4 that consistently offers us support. They understand that everyone faces distractions in their lives and provide steadfast support."
“I want to highlight the incredible nature of our wellness team. Our Regional Wellness Leads are exceptionally supportive and knowledgeable. As on-the-ground wellness advisors, we greatly admire them. Our extensive and diverse team is situated next to two other villages, providing an excellent opportunity for sharing and exchanging ideas.”
“Despite our isolation, the leadership in my village is outstanding. Our on-site management, with their varying personalities, contributes to a harmonious and united team. We are also incredibly supportive,” she expressed with gratitude.
“The community I've created through gym workouts now encompasses the entire neighbourhood. It's empowering to see residents recognising and appreciating me more than when I first started.”
Opportunities that Lie Ahead
Kate Hill's journey from gym ownership to her role as a dedicated Wellness Advisor at Sodexo is a testament to her commitment to fostering holistic wellness, community well-being, and safety. Her inspiring leadership, compassionate approach, and positive impact on the lives of those around her make her a true wellness advocate and community leader.
“Feeling nervous about new opportunities is good – it shows you're ready for the challenge. Working in a FIFO job can open up a world of possibilities. Embrace the challenge, as I have yet to meet someone who regretted it.”
"Taking the initiative to express your career goals can grab your managers' attention, paving the way for significant developments. Don't hesitate – taking the first step may be tough, but once you've committed, the rest will fall into place, leading to life-changing experiences," she said.
