Chef Chloe
Not Linear: A New Path Through Food
Chloe’s path to becoming a chef was anything but conventional. Before joining Sodexo, she worked as a console operator at a convenience store, a role with long hours and limited opportunities for growth. She knew she wanted something more but wasn't sure what her future held.
The pivot in her career came when she joined Sodexo as a kitchen hand and was offered the chance to upskill through our "Art of Food" program. This initiative is designed to help our people develop new skills and grow into new roles.
"Initially, I wasn’t 100% sure if I was going to connect with it," Chloe admits. However, almost immediately, I did.
From her very first day of training, Chloe realised she had found her passion in cooking. What started as just a job became the foundation for a fulfilling career. Her experience demonstrates that a career doesn't have to follow a set plan. Sometimes, the most rewarding journeys begin with an unexpected opportunity and the courage to say yes.
Not Limited: Proving Her Creative Talent
Today, the best part of Chloe's job is the freedom to be creative, especially with desserts. Her passion for food shines through in her work, but her journey in a traditionally male-dominated industry hasn't been without its challenges.
As a chef whose experience comes entirely from FIFO work, Chloe has often been underestimated. She has also observed that women in the kitchen can sometimes face additional scrutiny.
I believe women are often underestimated in the kitchen
Despite these challenges, Chloe has refused to let others define her capabilities. She has proven time and again that her talent and resilience are not limited by outdated perceptions. She has earned respect through her skill, creativity, and determination, showing that a true Trailblazer doesn't let obstacles stand in the way of her passion.
Not Done: Inspiring the Next Generation
Chloe’s journey of growth is far from over. Having successfully navigated the challenges of her industry, she is now focused on inspiring other women who are just starting out. Her advice is clear and direct, born from her own experiences of having to prove herself. She wants other women to know their worth and to feel empowered to take up space in the kitchen and beyond.
Don’t be afraid to step up, trust yourself, and stand your ground, she advises.
Chloe's words are a powerful reminder that growth is continuous and that leadership means paving the way for others. Her story shows that being a leader is about more than personal success; it's about using your voice and experience to support and empower those who come after you.
Chloe’s journey is an inspiration to all of us at Sodexo. She is proof that with courage, passion, and a refusal to back down, you can create the career and the life you want.
